OK, so I read one book in 2013 and it was called “buy provigil overnight shipping” by Jonathan Grotenstein and Storms Reback. My goal for 2014 is to try and read at least 4.

As for movies I only saw two new movies in 2013, “buy provigil south africa” which was ok and “buy provigil ireland” which was awful even though the artist types will tell you it’s amazing. For 2014, I’ll no longer be going by the “movies that came out in that year” edict, instead I’ll be listing any new movie to me that I watch in 2014 that’s interesting and worth noting either good or bad.

Changes are also coming to the Video Games section, because so far I’ve only rated games that I have beaten for the end of the year list. Instead, in 2014 I’ll be listing any games that I played that year and rank them even if I haven’t completed them, because obviously “Grand Theft Auto V” should be number one on my list below but since I’m still only about 50% of the way through it I didn’t list it.

BEST VIDEO GAMES OF 2013
(That I beat in 2013)

6. BINARY DOMAIN OK
The game tries to be as fast and furious as “Vanquish” but it doesn’t get there. Still fun to play through once. Some decent action, but nothing special.

5. BIOSHOCK INFINITE – GOOD
The original Bioshock is one of the greatest games of all-time, Bioshock Infinite is one of the most over-rated games of all-time. It’s a good game but nowhere near as interesting and groundbreaking as the paid off video game reviewers are claiming.

4. MIGHT & MAGIC CLASH OF HEROES – GOOD
A straight forward and simple game but fun and addictive.

3. CRACKDOWN – GOOD
A good stress reliever. Run around, shoot stuff, blow stuff up. What isn’t there to like?

2. DEADLIGHT – GOOD
Not on the same level as “Limbo” or “Shadow Complex” but a very solid 2D side scroller with a creepy mood and style.

1. SPEC OPS: THE LINE – GOOD THE BEST GAME I BEAT IN 2013
Solid action game with a cool environment and a unique plot, even if I don’t think it makes sense at the end.

So there you go. A handful of good games but nothing great. 2014 will make up for it though, as I’m currently crushing “Grand Theft Auto V”, I’ll make my way back to playing some “Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion”, and throw in some “Far Cry 3” along with the rest of the remaining X-Box 360 games I want to beat before making the leap to next gen consoles.

It’s going to be a busy year.

Are you new to the world of the vine? I remember when I first started to really enjoy wine I was kind of intimidated by the lack of knowledge I had for my new form of inebriation. I had wish there was a cheat sheet for me to turn to so I would know what wine goes with what and have somewhat of an idea of what was good and what was blah.

So here you go, after some years and plenty of corks later I can give you my opinion on the world of wine. This quick reference guide only scratches the surface but it’s more than enough to get you heading in the right direction. Enjoy!!

NinjaBeeNever buy a game on X-box Live if it was made by NinjaBee. Let me explain.

First we travel back to 2008 when NinjaBee’s “A Kingdom for Keflings” was released over X-Box Live. While the game was fun and relaxing to play a major bug halted any progress for me about halfway through the game. I looked for a solution to the problem on the NinjaBee forum and while they were aware of it they didn’t have any answers for it. After a few days and still no solution my attention span for “AKFK” drifted away and I just chalked it up to wasting $10 on what could have been a fun X-Box Live game. However, I made a mental note to not buy another game from NinjaBee.

ninjabeekfkFast forward to 2013 and I was in between games when I decided to browse the X-Box Live games catalogue and I saw that a sequel had been made to “A Kingdom for Keflings”. This time it was “A World of Keflings”. I remembered how much fun “A Kingdom” had been until the bug froze the game on me, and I foolishly thought the game’s developers must have worked out all the kinks from the original if they were releasing a sequel, and I also had a bunch of leftover Microsoft Points laying around, so I decided to buy “World of” and hoped for the best.

ninjabeewok “A World of Keflings” was great and after about 10 hours or so I had played through the entire game with no problems. I was even looking forward to purchasing and playing the DLC options for the game. And this is where the shit hit the fan once again. I bought the expansion game “It Came From Outer Space” and for some reason the DLC would appear on my console but when I went to play the game it would lock on a never-ending load screen. Once again I went to the NinjaBee forums and once again they knew of the problem but didn’t have an answer for it. And once again I was screwed by NinjaBee the worst video game developer in the world.

So why am I reviewing a game that came out in October of 2008? Let’s just say I was late to the party. But does it matter when it’s one of the greatest games of all-time? I had never played any other of the previous Fallout games but after a few hours stumbling around Vault 101 I quickly found myself immersed in a harsh and dangerous world known as The Capital Wasteland and now I’m officially a Bethesda fanboy.

The first thing you’ll notice when playing Fallout 3 is the tremendous amount of time and detail the developers put into what is truly a post-apocalyptic atmosphere that feels alive and waiting for you to interact with. If you have ever seen the film “The Road”, this game is about as close as you can get to the end of the world without having bloodthirsty cannibals killing you for real. At first this brutal world is intimidating and you’ll feel lost in the vast damaged environment around you, but feelings of hopelessness eventually turn to moments of pride as you become the savior of what is left of the human race. In the beginning you’ll be running from Radroaches and by the end you’ll be disposing of Deathclaws and Albino Scorpions with ease.

Oh yeah…there are Super Mutants too.

The writers of the game put in just as much time as the character and world designers as I can’t even imagine how many lines of dialogue had to be recorded for this game. There’s a large list of characters you’ll encounter and each one has their own personality for you to respond to and experience. Fallout 3 provides well thought out RPG elements that let you decided how to customize your character. The game’s combat system is unique and weird but the more you use it the more you’ll appreciate it. The music and sound design are top notch and provide an even thicker layer of fullness. Fallout 3 really takes great care in giving the player the feeling of pure desperation in a very bleak and ruined world. Oddly, you’ll spend hours and hours surrounded by death and decay and love every second of it.

After about 100 hours in The Capital Wasteland the game will slowly make its way into your daily “real world” routine, where you’ll feel compelled to find time every day in your “real life” to explore and discover every nook and random sewer tunnel in Fallout 3’s artificial world. And to me that was the most satisfying part of the game. Explore, explore, and explore some more. It’s only when you have beaten the game you discover how massive the world truly is as you’ll see dozen and dozen of unused locations that had nothing to do with any mission or side quest. Example, there is a random building called the Dunwich building that has nothing to do with the main storyline, but that didn’t stop the game designers from spending hours and hours to create a map location that I’m guessing 75% of the gamers will never even stumble upon. This game is easily the most detailed open world experience I’ve ever had. Fallout 3 offers unlimited freedom for your character right from the beginning that doesn’t sacrifice but expands on the main campaign. Of course, you’ll discover you can’t survive in certain parts of the world at the beginning, but the game lets you learn that on your own instead of other “open-world” games that implement a story arc that steers you in certain directions.

buy provigil canada pharmacy

The V.A.T.S. combat system lets you target specific body parts.

In closing, Fallout 3 is a game you must play before you die, or the end of the world really happens. It took me close to 200 hours before I got my fill and I only played 3 out of the 5 DLCs (Operation Anchorage, The Pitt and Broken Steel for those of you who are interested. I hear Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta are good but I just was ready to retire in my lovely shack in Megaton). The game delivers a fearful reality but also has a great sense of humor that feels right at home. I wasn’t a fan of the ending to the campaign and the game did freeze on me a few times, but I quickly overlook these short comings when you consider the grand scope of this gaming masterpiece.

Well the world didn’t end….yet. So you’re still alive to check out the best books, movies and video games I enjoyed or hated during the last year.

BOOKS

BookPokerCONFESSIONS OF A POKER DEALER
By Mark Ira Friedberg

AWFUL
There are a lot and I mean a lot of bad poker books out there, but this easily without question the worst poker book ever made.

BookMassMASS EFFECT: RETRIBUTION
By Drew Karpyshyn

OK, NOTHING SPECIAL
     Just play the game.

BookGOWGEARS OF WAR: JACINTO’S REMNANT
By Karen Traviss

OK, NOTHING SPECIAL
Just play the game.

BookGirlLITTLE GIRL LOST
By Richard Aleas

OK, NOTHING SPECIAL
The best book I read in 2012 was just a standard Hard Case Crime novel. I really need to find some more interesting books in 2013.

MOVIES

MovieDictTHE DICTATOR

AWFUL
Had high hopes, a tremendous disappointment.

MovieEXP2THE EXPENDABLES 2

OK
After the opening action sequence the film falls flat and is way too self-aware.

MovieChernCHERNOBYL DIARIES

OK
Cool idea and setting, poorly executed.

MovieHungerTHE HUNGER GAMES

OK
Was better than I expected, but still wasn’t that good. Give me “The Running Man” anytime.

MovieDarkKnightTHE DARK KNIGHT RISES

OK
It had a lot to live up to following “The Dark Knight” but this wasn’t even close. The ending is just absolutely embarrassing.

MoviecabinTHE CABIN IN THE WOODS

GOOD
If you can get past the ridiculous plot the movie is fun and interesting to watch.

MovieProXWHOPROJECT X

GOOD
Just as ridiculous as “The Cabin in the Woods” and just as fun.

MovieRandAYN RAND & THE PROPHECY OF ATLAS SHRUGGED

GREAT
If you’ve read the book then you know what is happening in the world today.

MovieDarkHorseDARK HORSE

GREAT
I make it a point to watch every film Todd Solondz makes and while the film did wander it still delivered a unique cinema experience that Solondz is known for.

MovieAvengersTHE AVENGERS

EXCELLENT
The most fun I’ve had in a movie theater in awhile. A film that was worth seeing twice in the theater. Not only the best film of 2012 but also the best comic book movie ever made and one of the best overall films ever made.

VIDEO GAMES

VideoWalkingDeadTHE WALKING DEAD: EPISODE 1 “A NEW DAY”

GOOD
A great blend of what you expect from the TV show put into a video game. However, for a game that is based on your decisions I don’t understand why there has to be a time limit for how long you have to decide.

VideoGOWRaamGEARS OF WAR 3: RAAM’S SHADOW

GOOD
This DLC is worth paying for if you enjoy the GOW universe.

VideoCCOCONDEMNED: CRIMINAL ORIGINS

GOOD
One of the scariest games you’ll ever played. The spooky environments hold up even after 7 years since it’s initial release, however the game controls aren’t as tight as we’re use to now.

VideoNFSNEED FOR SPEED: HOT PURSUIT

GREAT
Fast and furious racing game with awesome graphics and soundtrack.

Vanquish BoxVANQUISH

GREAT
Amazing single-player action game that flew under the radar.

VideoMassEffect3MASS EFFECT 3

GREAT
Not the ending I was hoping for in this most epic of video game journeys, but I’m glad I was a part of it.

VideoGOW3GEARS OF WAR 3

ALL TIME GREAT GAME
The co-op campaign was fun, the horde mode was crazy, and no one does third-person action better.

VideoFallout3FALLOUT 3

ALL TIME GREAT GAME
I finally got around to playing this masterpiece from 2008 and I discovered the biggest open world experience I’ve had in gaming. Includes DLC: Operation Anchorage, The Pitt, and Broken Steel.

During my time in The Capital Wasteland I killed over 2500 people and creatures. I’m in the process of putting together my final stats from my almost 200 hours of gameplay and it was during this review that I remembered my encounter with a ghoul named Gallo.

You can find Gallo down in a dark chamber in the County Sewer Mainline. Be careful of the booby traps that surround his place. When I first saw Gallo he was in the process of celebrating his birthday with his two favorite garden gnomes. I slowly and quietly entered his home and was thinking of befriending the ghoul before he noticed me and without hesitation was set on killing me. Within seconds, blasts from my combat shotgun took Gallo down and ended his life.

Killing comes easy after spending time wandering around a war torn Washington D.C., whether its a Deathclaw or a Super Mutant the new law of the land is kill or be killed, but unlike these other casualties something didn’t sit right after taking Gallo’s life. It didn’t surprise me when he threatened my life, I had become accustomed to assaults on my life on a daily basis and my instincts took over. However, after looking down at Gallo’s lifeless body a feeling of remorse came over me. Yes, he was a hostile cannibal that would have enjoyed eating my entrails, but even so, I saw him as a ghoul…wait, make that a person making the most of a bad situation. I had encounter hundreds of feral ghouls roaming train tunnels just looking for their next victim to attack, but Gallo seemed to have a sense of purpose to his bizarre life. He had a huge Nuka-Cola collection; from Nuka-Cola bottles, Nuka-Cola trucks, a Nuka-Cola neon sign…etc. While most ghouls spent time feeling sorry for themselves and their position in the post-apocalypse world, Gallo had carved out his own place and made something of himself. He was independent, organized and had purpose. In addition to his Nuka-Cola collection, he had pet radroaches, and a closet filled with a variety of useful items.

Gallo with his Nuka-Cola collection and other things.

Gallo was indeed evil. Some would say it was just a matter of time before the toxic radiaition in the sewer got the best of him. Others would say what was the point of his stupid collections of nick-knacks and trinkets? People can say what they want, and even though I blew his head off, I saw more humanity in him than most of the “civilized” citizens who still walk among us.

FastFoodAmericaI know fast food is bad for you. I know it can kill you. But America is about choices. What to put in your body and what high calorie creation to consume. It my be unhealthy, but is anything you really enjoy ever good for you? My criteria for this list was that the items had to be “fast, cheap and good”, isn’t that what fast food is all about?

CHUDboxcoverC.H.U.D (1984)

Directed by: Douglas Cheek
Rated: R
Runtime: 96 mins

If you grew up in the ’80’s then you have to remember the awesomeness you experienced when you first saw the box cover to the movie “C.H.U.D” in your local video store. For a ten year-old it was the most amazing thing ever. The image of a weird creature coming out from underneath a city sewer lid. For over the last 20 years that image had not escaped me, but ironically I had never seen the actual movie inside the coolest box cover ever….until now.

“It’s a C.H.U.D!!”

I wish I could say the movie is as cool as the box cover but that’s not the case. About the only interesting thing about “C.H.U.D” is a cast of future recognizable actors who were earning their dues in this horror B-movie. Actors like John Heard, Daniel Stern, Sam McMurray and John Goodman. Even if you don’t know all these guys by name, they’re the kind of guys you know when you see them. In fact, John Goodman who only has a bit role in the film did his Coach Harris character from “Revenge of the Nerds” the very same year as “C.H.U.D” (1984).

“You just wait until the Coen brothers discover me.”

While there is a certain mystique about mutated creatures emerging from the sewers of a big city and this film was certainly the forerunner for that idea, overall there isn’t anything special about the film. The plot is pretty sloppy, the characters are generic and the most interesting thing about the film, the “C.H.U.Ds” are used sparingly, probably due to the limited SFX budget. “C.H.U.D” is definitely a film you have to see to say you have seen it, but don’t be prepared to be wowed like you were as a kid in Magic Video.

YOUR GUIDE TO WINNING MCDONALD’S MONOPOLY http://wellhungover.net/?p=33 http://wellhungover.net/?p=33#respond Tue, 25 Sep 2012 01:44:15 +0000 http://cfe31318-8678-4c88-8dc4-4dbe1cba8777   As golden as the arches of this fine establishment, the same can be said for the money making opportunity that awaits you. monopolydudeswAs golden as the arches of this fine establishment, the same can be said for the money making opportunity that awaits you. I’m of course talking about the annual artery clogging game called “McDonald’s Monopoly”. But before you abandon your healthy lifestyle of tofu and hummus for Big Macs and Large Fries I thought it would be nice to provide you with the list of “Rare Pieces” for the game:

monopolyrareI know these codes are from 2007 but as far as I know nothing has changed over the years. Now if you don’t know how the game works…well…you’re a moron. Don’t worry the Mickie D’s employee with Down Syndrome by the shake machine will explain it for you. Don’t get me wrong. I know this game is a sucker’s bet in its truest form. Hell, the game was halted back in 2001 after a company called Simon Marketing, which organized and promoted the game, had been removing all the “rare pieces” from play and distributing them to friends and family. The scam went on for several years and netted the conspirators over $24 million in prizes. The scheme was eventually uncovered when one of the participants informed the FBI. There’s always one, isn’t there?

“McDonald’s Monopoly” is indeed just a marketing scheme and playing it consistently will add inches to your waistline but who doesn’t get a thrill when they peel off Park Place from the side of their large Coke? You’re only one Boardwalk away from life changing money.
